Aim of the Game
The road to success lies in the wise use of resources – only if you find the right balance between revenue and expenditures can you unlock new technologies, improve your city further and guide your civilization toward fame and glory!

The Ages
81fa182c81fcdf3c3cc287d23649d3e8You begin as the leader of a small tribe. Over time, you will research new technologies, conquer territories, and transform your modest settlement into a thriving metropolis. The game is divided into distinct ages. You journey starts in the Stone Age, and continues through the Bronze Age, Iron Age, several stages of the Middle Ages, Colonial Age and Industrial Age. From there you progress into more modern times with the Progressive Era, Modern Era, Postmodern Era and Contemporary Era. Your civilization then ventures into the Future, eventually facing the challenges of climate change in the Arctic Future. Next, you will explore the Oceanic Future, discovering underwater civilizations and harnessing the power of the seas. The Virtual Future will then revolutionize your society, as digital and physical realms merge in ways never before imagined.

But humanity's ambitions reach far beyond Earth. Your civilization will take its first steps into space, establishing colonies on the red plains of Mars. As you push further into the solar system, you will mine precious resources in the Asteroid Belt, before creating habitats in the scorching atmosphere of Venus. Your journey then leads to the icy moons of Jupiter, where new discoveries and challenges await. In the distant Titan age, you will harness the unique resources of Saturn's largest moon. Finally, you reach the pinnacle of space exploration by constructing the Space Hub, the central nexus of humanity’s interplanetary civilization.

You advance to a new age by unlocking a key technology from that era in the research tree. Once you enter into a new age, you will receive a new city hall and your old one will automatically be replaced. In most cases, entering a new age also allows you to immediately construct several buildings from that era.

The Continent Map
21a0c55712cfd76e2ee86621289f5d6dDeveloping and managing your city is only part of the experience. On the Continent Map, you can expand your empire province by province through conquest or negotiation. Doing so is highly rewarding, as it grants valuable resources and other bonuses. The Continent Map is divided into regions that broadly correspond to the game’s ages, and your progress on the map generally aligns with your technological advancement. And behold - there is a whole world beyond the continent map, with other maps and even more adventures! Find out more about the Continent Map here.

The City
0123c64c96a2f5cb093fba5d65405c02The nuts and bolts of a successful city is efficient production. Only if you produce enough coins and supplies will you be able to get the newest buildings and military units. Residential and production buildings form the backbone of your economy and should make up a significant part of your city layout. Carefully compare available buildings, as different options are better suited to different playstyles and strategies. Citizen happiness is nearly as important as production, as happy citizens work far more efficiently –
to maintain high happiness levels, build cultural buildings and decorations to keep your citizens inspired.

As your city grows, you will unlock a variety of special buildings that grant access to more exciting features beyond your main settlement. Some of these buildings appear as ruins that must be restored, while others become available as you progress through ages or unlock specific technologies. The majestic Castle System stands as a testament to your military might, while the Friends Tavern creates a social hub where your friends can visit you. The Antiques Dealer offers a unique marketplace for rare treasures, and the Historical Allies building lets you forge powerful partnerships with legendary figures. Your city's bustling Harbor complex serves as a gateway to two distinct adventures: the Cultural Outposts, where you can explore and build cities inspired by different civilizations, and the Guild Expeditions, face cooperative challenges to earn valuable rewards. For the more competitive players, the Guild Battlegrounds portal offers intense guild-versus-guild combat, while the Arena provides exciting PvP challenges. As you advance into the eras, you will unlock the cutting-edge Quantum Incursions facility, offering high-level strategic challenges!

Research
At the top of your city view in the center, there is a display showing your Forge Points. Every hour you get one more, until you have reached your current maximum. Forge Points are the engine that drives your empire forward: they are required for research, trading, and leveling up Great Buildings. You conduct research by investing into technologies in the research tree with your points. Once all required Forge Points and any additional unlocking costs are met, the technology is unlocked, this grants new bonuses and allows you to construct new buildings or unlock new features through the building menu.

Quests
522780e0870a75b1c92de2e8231a495aOn the left side of the screen, you will find portraits of your advisors. By interacting with them, you can accept quests that guide you through the game. Quests introduce you to game mechanics while also expanding the lore of the world, its regions, and its rulers.

Completing quests is highly rewarding, as they grant valuable resources such as goods, coins, supplies, military units that do not require production slots, and diamonds. There are several different types of quests you will encounter throughout your journey:

Main Story Quests are led by your advisor Ragu Silvertongue, who guides you through the central narrative of the game. These quests cannot be refused or aborted and must be completed to progress. Later in the game, an additional mandatory storyline becomes available, offering further narrative-driven quests.

Advisor Quests are offered by your other advisors and focus on specific aspects of gameplay. For example, the architect Fernikus often encourages construction, while the scientist Mandrubar focuses on research. Unlike main story quests, advisor quests can be rejected or discarded if they do not align with your current strategy. In some cases, rejecting advisor quests may even be necessary, as they can occasionally include objectives that are not achievable in your current game situation. Most rejected advisor quests are permanently removed and cannot be completed later. This is not a major drawback, as it is impossible to complete every quest in the game. New quests are continuously generated based on your current progress and situation, often offering multiple possible objectives. Therefore, if you reject a specific quest, you will get another to replace it.

Daily Challenges become available once you reach the Iron Age. Each challenge is available for 24 hours after the daily reset and offers a choice between two different reward options. Once you complete 7 daily challenges, you will receive an extra special reward and the quest counter will reset to 0. Daily Challenges can reward you with buildings, Forge Points, and standard resources such as medals, with a chance to obtain rare event buildings! During certain events, Daily Challenges may also grant event-specific currency to support your progress, so don't miss out!

Seasonal Events introduce limited-time questlines throughout the year, each featuring its own storyline and themed rewards. These events usually run for several weeks and offer exclusive buildings, units, and decorations that cannot be obtained outside the event period. Each event comes with its own currency and special mechanics, making them exciting opportunities to enhance your city with unique items!

Rival Challenges are special, time-limited questlines that typically appear during events and add an extra layer of engagement. Unlike regular quests, Rival Challenges focus on event-specific objectives, such as using certain event mechanics or items, and reward players with valuable event-related goodies including buildings, boosters, and event currency.

Remember, while some questlines like the main story and seasonal events are mandatory to progress, others like advisor quests can be managed according to your playing style and city development strategy. Each type of quest contributes differently to your city's growth and offers unique rewards that can help you advance in various aspects of the game.

Maps and Battles

Campaign Map plays a crucial role in your overall progression. By acquiring provinces, you unlock city expansions and gain access to important resource deposits that are essential for long-term development. Provinces can be obtained either through negotiation by trading goods or through military conquest, allowing players to choose a strategy that best fits their playstyle. While early battles are relatively straightforward, combat becomes increasingly challenging as you advance.

To succeed in battle, preparation is key. Always examine the enemy army composition and deploy units that counter their strengths. As a general rule, fast units perform well against ranged units, melee units counter fast units, and ranged units are effective against melee troops. Additional advantages can be gained by infiltrating sectors, which damages enemy units before combat begins. Using terrain strategically and focusing multiple attacks on single enemy units can further improve your chances of victory.

Players

Forge of Empires is a shared world where interaction with other players plays an important role. In your neighborhood, you will find other players with whom you can trade goods and cooperate. You can also visit other cities to motivate or polish buildings, granting you coins and a small chance to receive valuable Great Building blueprints, which can be especially helpful in the early game.

Great Buildings provide powerful long-term benefits and play a key role in city development. While cooperation is often beneficial, players may also choose to engage in conflict. By successfully attacking a neighboring city, you can plunder one of its buildings to gain additional income, but you should realize that such behavior does not win you friends. Competitive players can also participate in tournaments, where frequent battles are required to earn valuable medals and rewards.

Goods
Goods become an increasingly important resource as you progress through the game, making forward planning essential. Running out of required goods can block research and slow down your development, so maintaining a balanced supply is crucial. You are not expected to produce every type of good yourself; instead, focus on producing the goods for which you have boosted deposits on the Continent Map. Trading with other players is the most efficient way to obtain goods you do not produce. While it is possible to exchange goods with non-player dealers, their rates are highly unfavorable and should only be used as a last resort. Goods can also be acquired through military action by plundering enemy production buildings, provided you use your army strategically and time your attacks carefully.

Tips
  • Always plan ahead
  • Remember to use your Forge Points before your Forge Point bar is full
  • Make sure to start producing boosted goods as early as you can
  • Use your boosted goods to trade on the market for goods you don't produce
  • Use the space in your city as efficiently as you can
  • Get all the expansions you can – they never expire and are essential for development
  • Do not forget the daily bonus from your town hall
  • Always pay attention to the level of happiness
  • Visit the cities of other players and motivate or polish their buildings if you need to get coins fast
  • Look at the enemy's army set up and employ counter units, use terrain advantages and attack a unit with several units
  • Keep an eye out for small incidents that appear in your city and the surrounding land, coast and sea.
