For Vikings and Feudal Japan, the rocks on the settlement grid are immovable Impediments which cannot be removed from the settlement. You need work and plan around those impediments as an additional challenge in the game!

In Ancient Egypt, Aztecs, Mughal Empire,and Polynesia the impediments can be removed with pickaxes!
